“Miller-Meteor Landau Traditional end-loader hearse,” the seller describes. “One of the 2,527 commercial chassis built by Cadillac for all the coach builders in 1964.”
Some of our readers might not have heard of Miller-Meteor before, but this company was responsible for building “Ecto-1” – the famous 1959 Cadillac ambulance that appeared prominently in the 1984 film Ghostbusters. The company’s early history dates back to even beyond the origin of the automobile: The AJ Miller company started making horse carriages in 1853. A hundred years later, it was based in Ohio and worked on special projects like Ecto-1 – and this car.
Some of the restoration work on this Caddy has already been completed under current ownership according to the listing. Power comes from a big-block 429cid V8 from Jasper Engines which is paired with a rebuilt three-speed automatic transmission. The seller says the car is “mechanically in perfect order.” Power steering and power brakes help with handling on this big ride.
On the inside, the seats were reupholstered within the past year, and the cabin layout includes versatile removable jump seats in the rear.
The exterior, however, looks a little rough – but that patina adds to the sinister vibe that makes this such an appropriate ride for the season. Based on the photo gallery in the listing, there is some corrosion in the lower panels, and the upper surfaces show fading and matte texture. The skeleton-themed front license plate is the perfect accessory to round out the package.
“This coach is a perfect collector’s vehicle to take to the final stage of body work and paint. It has some areas of rust that can be appreciated in the pictures and will require prompt attention. I have owned it since 2008 as part of a horror theatrical ghost tour in town, but since those days are gone for me, I have decided to move on.”
The seller has included a drive-by video showing the car in motion, and it’s easy to see why it turns so many heads. The asking price is $10,000 or best offer for this Halloween-ready hearse.
