The original, or first-generation, K5 Blazer came out in 1969 and shared a platform with the full-sized K10 pickup truck. It was a two-door sport-utility vehicle that General Motors intended to compete with vehicles such as the Ford Bronco and the International Harvester Scout, although both of those were smaller in dimension compared to the Blazer. One of the key attributes of the Blazer was its open-air driving experience: it could be optioned with either a removable hardtop or a retractable soft top.
Today’s Blazer takes things to a new level entirely. The listing doesn’t call out a list of specific modifications (we might need to read up in those 2007-era magazines for all the nitty gritty), but right off the bat we see a chopped windshield, shaved door handles, a dramatically lowered suspension, and an audio system that takes up most of the rear cargo area. This would be a fair-weather ride only, as there are no visible provisions for mounting a hardtop or soft top around the perimeter of the body. Oh, and there are no windshield wipers either!
To no surprise, the powertrain was enhanced along with the rest of the architecture. Power under the hood comes from a modern V8 which is nestled into a shaved, tucked, and color-keyed engine bay.
When most people think of vintage Chevy Blazers, they think of lifted all-terrain rigs with mud tires and KC lights. This vehicle took a completely different approach to the idea of a custom build. It would look right at home in your garage, complete with a framed copy of its 2007 magazine feature.
