Right out of the box, the Firebird was already known to be a competent performance car. But some enthusiasts have taken things to another level with engine, chassis, and tire upgrades for a heightened driving experience.

Produced alongside its badge-engineered sibling, the Camaro, the Firebird has become a favorite for collectors and enthusiasts. It evolved through four distinct generations, beginning in 1967 and culminating in the 1993 through 2002 iteration as shown here. New additions to the model for its final span of production included anti-lock brakes, standard dual air bags, rack-and-pinion power steering, and modernized aesthetics. Within the Firebird model lineup was the Trans Am version – essentially a package that combined engine and chassis upgrades for a sportier appearance and higher performance.
This black 25-year-old Firebird still looks relatively fresh today, thanks to excellent stewardship. “This Trans Am has been meticulously maintained and cared for throughout its life. Garage-kept and ran twice a year to ensure that it runs smoothly and reliably,” the seller says.
A stock 1998 Trans Am was rated at 305 horsepower from the 5.7-liter small-block V8 motor, and transmissions were available in manual or automatic forms. This car comes configured as a four-speed automatic, and the seller has listed some of the performance upgrades that were installed to achieve a dyno rating of 328 horsepower. The key ingredients are a set of SLP long tube headers, an SLP three-inch Y-pipe with high-flow catalytic converters, and an MTI induction lid for enhanced air flow and breathing. Putting the power to the pavement is a new set of grippy Nitto NTI555RIII tires.
