AutoHunter Spotlight: 1957 Chevrolet convertible

This 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible basks in a glow of Matador Red paint complemented by a red and silver vinyl interior plus a white top. It was restored 10-years ago under previous ownership. Features include a 283ci V-8 equipped with dual four-barrel carburetors, column-mounted three-speed manual transmission, Continental kit, red top boot and whitewall tires. This “Tri-Five” Chevrolet comes from the selling dealer with a clear Colorado title.

The restoration of this 1957 Chevrolet was finished around 2012, and the seller claims the paint and trim continue to remain nearly flawless. During the restoration, the Bel Air was painted code 802 Matador Red, which is the way this vehicle emerged from the Lansing, Mich. plant when it was new.

Per the trim tag, this Bel Air was originally built with the code 683 red vinyl interior with silver inserts. The cabin also features red carpeting and red Chevrolet-branded front floor mats up front. Other features include manual windows and brakes, column-mounted manual shifter and a modern,  aftermarket radio.

Vehicle diagnostics are displayed on a 120-mph speedometer complemented by coolant temperature and fuel level gauges. The seller claims that the horn does not work. True mileage is unknown.

Though not originally born with dual quads, the 283 now features this upgrade, including the “Batwing” air cleaner. This engine was originally rated at 245 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs. of torque. According to the selling dealer, this vehicle starts and drives well.
