Nissan is sending one of their electric vehicles on the first expedition from the North Pole to the South Pole.
British adventurer1 Chris Ramsey is attempting to become the first person to drive from pole to pole in a vehicle of any type. Ramsey will drive an all-electric Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE over 27,000 kilometers (approximately 16,777 miles) from the arctic through North, Central and South America before crossing to Antarctica. Temperatures during the adventure will range from -30 to 30 degrees Celsius (-22 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit).
“Our mission is to show that electric vehicles can tackle the harshest of environments – from the bitter cold of the poles to the hot and humid jungles of South America, and illustrate that they are exhilarating to drive whilst meeting the daily demands of drivers around the world,” said Chris Ramsey.
The all-electric Nissan Ariya makes its debut in the Fall of 2022 and the one making the global trek has a custom exterior for the elements, and upgraded wheels, tires, and suspension components. A backup and unmodified, Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE will act as a support vehicle throughout the Americas.
E-4ORCE is Nissan’s all-wheel drive system that traces the driver’s intended over various road surfaces, including wet and snowy roads, without needing to change the driving style or input.
In 2017 Chris Ramsey and his wife, Julie, became the first team to complete the Mongo Rally in an all-electric vehicle. They travelled more than 16,000 kilometers (9,941 miles) in his own Nissan Leaf.
