Pictures from the New York International Auto Show

Your crystal ball on the future

-

Newspress USA has been kind enough to give us images from the 2024 New York International Auto Show. From March 29 to April 7, you and other members of the general public will be able to attend, but these pics were taken when the press and other royalty were present. Is 2025 and beyond worth the doom and gloom you feel these days? Let the photos be your guide!

Genesis had a full roster of concepts to show the car-buying public: Neolun, GV60 Magma, G80 Magma Special, and X Gran Berlinetta. Magma will become Genesis’ high-performance sub-brand, and we should be thankful the company settled for an honest-to-goodness name and not a single letter.

A bit more down to Earth is the unveiling of the all-new Nissan Kicks. While the previous version seems to have been forgettable, this SUV-esque subcompact almost appears to have adopted some Mini Cooper vibes to these eyes. Will that play true in the flesh?

Kia has unveiled the imaginably-named K4, which slots between the Forte and Optima. Up to this point, the K4 has been a Chinese-market model, but there’s a very good chance you’ll see this vehicle on American roads in the not-too-distant future.

You know the Porsche Macan, right? The smaller of the two Porsche SUVs will now be joined by an EV version of the same. With up to 630 horsepower and 270 kW charging ability (if you need to ask what that means, please don’t ask us), it’s but one of many interesting cars Porsche gives enthusiasts and status slaves alike.

Infiniti has unveiled the completely redesigned 2025 QX80 SUV. A behemoth among Japanese SUVs, the QX80 embodies Infiniti’s new design language called “Artistry in Motion,” to which I respond, “No comprendo la lengua.”

It used to be that Ferrari and Lamborghini gave us the cars that we would dream about. These days, those names almost seem old hat compared to the likes of the Rimac Nevera. Rimac who? A $2.2 million hypercar from Croatia that has set 25 world performance records. Only 150 will be built, which isn’t common enough to help you remember the name.

And, if you recall the strange affair between Robert Downey Jr. and his classic cars, then you will be able to see them in the flash as the Downey Dream Cars Giveaway makes an appearance at the 2024 New York International Auto Show. The proceeds will benefit Downey’s FootPrint Coalition that is focused on the adoption of green technologies.

There’s a lot more going on at the Jacob K. Javitz Center on the west side of Manhattan so, if you make it to the show, show us your pics!

Diego Rosenberg
Diego Rosenberg
Lead Writer Diego Rosenberg is a native of Wilmington, Delaware and Princeton, New Jersey, giving him plenty of exposure to the charms of Carlisle and Englishtown. Though his first love is Citroen, he fell for muscle cars after being seduced by 1950s finned flyers—in fact, he’s written two books on American muscle. But please don’t think there is a strong American bias because foreign weirdness is never far from his heart. With a penchant for underground music from the 1960-70s, Diego and his family reside in the Southwest.

    • We were not at the event so our resources are limited. I am sure there is more coverage now that media days are over and the general public is allowed to enter.
