Joey Logano won Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway and ended his 40-race winless streak, but he bumped William Byron out of the way on the penultimate lap to do it. The impact sent Byron into the wall and Logano cruised by for the victory. Byron finished in 13th place.
“Yeah, he’s just a moron. He can’t win a race, so he does it that way,” Byron said after the race. “I don’t know, we’ll … yeah, it was close racing on the restart. We were faster than him. Obviously, at the end the right rear (of Byron‘s car) started to go away, and, yeah, he didn’t even make it a contest.”
Tyler Reddick finished second, with Justin Haley, Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliott rounding out the Top 5 on Sunday. After 12 races Elliott sits atop of the season standings with Byron, Ryan Blaney, Logano, and Chastain completing the Top 5.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen started third at the first ever Formula One Miami Grand Prix. The reigning F1 champ passed polesitter Charles Leclerc on the ninth lap and after 57 hard-fought laps Verstappen got his third win of the season and 23rd of his career.
“It feels amazing to win in Miami, the whole atmosphere this weekend has been incredible and to win in the US is always a nice feeling,” Verstappen said after the race. “It was a physically tough race; I think I must have lost around 3kgs!”
Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished on the podium, with Sergio Perez and George Russell rounding out the Top 5 on Sunday. After five races Leclerc tops the driver standing with 104 points, followed by Verstappen, Sergio, George Russell and Sainz.
The W Series season opening double header was swept by Jamie Chadwick at the Miami International Autodrome over the weekend. It was her fourth straight win and eighth of her W Series career.
“With the nature of the circuit and the heat, it was all about keeping it clean, making no mistakes and keeping the tyres in check,” said Chadwick.
Chadwick is on top of the season standings, with Nerea Marti, Beitske Visser, Abbi Pulling and Jessica Hawkins rounding out the Top 5.
