Five Chevrolet Camaros were stolen from a General Motors plant in Lansing, Michigan and after a high speed chase the nine suspects were apprehended. The Camaros were on I-96 traveling at high speeds, traffic stops were attempted but all five vehicles did not stop, and multiple pursuits ensued. Some of the stolen Camaros crashed after stop sticks were used by the police and no injuries were reported.
Two of the Camaros appear to be ZL1s, based on badging in the crime scene photos posted by the Michigan State Police on Twitter.
The 2022 Chevy Camaro ZL1 is a savvy choice for a car chase on the interstate. Under the hood is a 650 bhp supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that provides stout performance with a top speed of a 190 mph, 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, 0 to 150 mph in 19.2 seconds, and if necessary it can completely stop from 100 mph in 268 feet.
Per the Michigan State Police, charges for the nine suspects include fleeing and eluding, receiving and concealing of a stolen vehicle, resisting and obstructing, and conspiracy to commit an illegal act. The suspects were 20 to 24 years of age, eight of the nine were from the Detroit area, and one suspect was from Saginaw.
