If you are a collector of car magazines, you will understand the enormity and cost of tracking down every issue of a title. And then there’s the space needed for all that paper! This is something that was a joy in another era but, today, a magazine collection seems like a ball and chain thanks to the Internet.
That’s not to say the joy is gone – being able to flip through a periodical is a pleasurable endeavor that’s been part of the human experience for a very, very long time. To some of us, access to an online library will never be a substitute, but how many folks have a complete collection of Motor Trend magazines? This digital archive is an opportunity that we could only dream about.
From September 1949, Motor Trend has been giving the straight scoop to American automotive enthusiasts. It’s part of the automotive fabric that has shaped us not only as Americans, but as consumers. Scan through the covers on the home page and take note of the ones you recognize from your youth, then dig in and gobble up every single world – this seminal stuff is now only a bookmark away.

Funny that I just got this e mail of 75 years of MT digital. This winter I started bringing out my old Car magazines [MT, C&D, R&T ,
SCI, ETC, and looking at them. Probably a couple thousand. What a hoot. I started back in the mid 50s collecting them. I much rather hold the real thing, made of paper than looking at a screen. Taught Technology for 30 years and by 1999 the high school students knew more than I. Time to retire. Turning 80 this year. No one wants my collection.
