Yee-Ha! ExoMod Introduces The General

Ever hear the term “RetroMod?” It’s a modern restomod done with a nod to the past. A perfect example would be ExoMod’s 1968 Dodge Charger with a carbon fiber body on an SRT Hellcat chassis. They’ve also done Charger Daytona RetroMod called the D69 Daytona, which we caught at the 2024 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, so can you guess what would be the logical next step?

Yessiree, Cletus, ExoMod is introducing The General, a 717-horsepower, carbon fiber reimagination of a 1969 Dodge Charger built on a modern Hellcat chassis. This no-expense-spared, 1,500-hour build gives a nod to a certain television show that appeared on CBS from 1979-85.

“The 1969 Dodge Charger is perhaps the most iconic car from the muscle car movement of the late ‘60s,” says Rick Katzeff, CEO & Founder of EXOMOD. “It represents raw power and aesthetics that appeal to every automotive enthusiast to this day.”

The General build is based on a 2023 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Jailbreak that was transformed into a widebody 1969 Charger via bespoke carbon fiber body panels. Though the color of the original General Lee looked like the factory Hemi Orange, for filming purposes it was a similar hue called TNT Express. Similarly, in the case of The General, the owner wanted more pop and pearl in the paint, so he went with Go Mango Pearl. It’s all finished off with Cosmetic Carbon Bumblebee stripe, hood scoop, chin spoiler, door jambs, rockers, and rear diffuser, plus Satin Graphite for assorted trim and taillights. The latter features sequential LEDs by DigiTails.

Of course, the engine compartment includes a 717-horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 backed by an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic, but it has been customized with carbon fiber close-out and cowl panels. A custom active exhaust with carbon fiber exhaust tips expels the spent emissions.

If you feel the aesthetics of a classic infused with the driving experience of a modern muscle car is just what you need to fulfill your TV fantasy (with apologies to Ricardo Montalban), be prepared to spend $329,000 for the honor. It comes with Dodge’s 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty intact, though we suspect five years will come before The General marches 60,000 miles.
