AutoHunter Spotlight: 1997 Pontiac Trans Am Comp T/A

The Firehawk’s rarer brother

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this one-owner 1997 Pontiac Trans Am Comp T/A. When new, it was upgraded and invoiced from factory specifications by Street Legal Performance Engineering (who also handled the Firehawk) to mark the anniversary of the BFGoodrich’s Comp T/A series of tires. This Firebird is powered by an LT1 5.7-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and limited-slip differential. Equipment includes Ram Air hood, T-tops, aluminum wheels with new BFGoodrich tires, Delco audio system, and SLP-upgraded suspension. Finished in silver over a gray leather interior, this garage-kept Poncho comes with documentation, original bill of sale and receipts, owner’s booklets, two keys and fobs, T-top shades, and clean CARFAX report and clear title.

The Bright Silver Metallic exterior features fog lamps, composite “WS6” Ram Air hood with functional scoops, removable glass T-top panels, Comp T/A badging, spoiler, and performance exhaust system.

Cast aluminum 17-inch five-spoke wheels are wrapped in new 275/40 BFGoodrich Comp-2 A/S tires.

The 2+2 cockpit features Dark Pewter leather bucket seats up front. Features include power windows and door locks, power steering and tilt steering column, cruise control, air conditioning, Delco stereo with equalizer and remote CD changer, electric hatch release, rear window defogger, and Comp T/A Limited Edition plate.

Instrumentation includes a 155-mph speedometer, 7,000-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The digital odometer reads 27,910 miles, which is in line with the CARFAX report.

The LT1 5.7-liter V8 features Ram Air and transfers its power to the rear wheels via a console-shifted four-speed automatic transmission and limited-slip differential.

The Comp T/A package added a larger front anti-sway bar and a revised rear track. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes bring motion to a standstill.

According to production data, 164 total Firebird Comp T/As were produced across three model years, with only 47 built for 1997; of those, 17 were built with an automatic transmission.

The auction for this 1997 Pontiac Trans Am Comp T/A ends Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. (MST)
