AutoHunter Spotlight: 2006 Cadillac XLR

18 years old with only 9,060 miles

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 9k-Mile 2006 Cadillac XLR Roadster.

Marketed for just a single generation, the XLR two-seater arrived on the automotive scene exactly 20 years ago, for model year 2004. Although it shared and General Motors Y-body hydroformed perimeter frame with the C6 Chevrolet Corvette, it was set apart by its unique body, suspension, engines, and – most importantly – an electronically-retractable hardtop. Today’s featured Light Platinum 2006 car comes with service records, a clean CARFAX report, and a clear title from the selling dealer in Mason, Michigan. The auction will conclude this Wednesday.

Riding on a set of Vogue whitewall tires shod in 18-inch wheels, this XLR sets itself apart at first glance with a unique look. For its time, the XLR came well-appointed, with available features including touchscreen GPS navigation, adaptive cruise control, HID headlights, and a Bose premium sound system. A handling feature that also appeared on some other General Motors vehicles of the time, called Magnetic Ride Control, used sensors to monitor wheel motion and was able to adjust shock damping in real time.

In lieu of an “LS” engine like its platform-sharing Corvette employed, the XLR instead had a Cadillac 4.6-liter Northstar V8 and either a five-speed or a six-speed automatic transmission. High-performance versions of the XLR had a supercharged powertrain. Today’s car has the 320-horsepower non-supercharged version, and it has been well-maintained: The CARFAX report shows that the car received service at Shaheen Cadillac of Lansing, Michigan last September at 9,035 miles on the odometer. In total, the report shows over 10 service records across the car’s lifetime, which is impressive considering it has been driven fewer than 10,000 miles over the last 18 years.

According to General Motors’ production numbers, there were about 15,000 XLR units sold across its lifetime of six model years between 2004 and 2009. In its day, it carried a base price of $75,385. Today’s featured car is a “near-new” version, so if you missed your chance to buy one of these when they came out 20 years ago, this is an opportunity you won’t want to forego.

With its rarity, low mileage, and maintenance history, this XLR has “future collectible” written all over it!

The auction for this 9k-Mile 2006 Cadillac XLR ends Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 12:45 p.m. (MST)
