Today’s ClassicCars TV feature was one for the dreamers almost 70 years ago: the 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 concept car. With hopeful and optimistic post-war attitudes characterizing the new decade, this relic from GM’s Motorama perfectly captured the zeitgeist of what was to come for the rest of the decade. Utilizing such components as a Corvette chassis, 324cid Rocket V8, and Hydra-Matic Super Drive transmission, the F-88 hit a nice balance between dream and production cars. Though the Olds never achieved production status, several of the F-88’s stylistic elements would appear on production Oldsmobiles in the ensuing years. This Motorama roadster is remarkable in that most concept cars were destroyed when the show season was over.

PLEASE SEND MORE PICTURES ON F-88 AND ANY OTHER INFO YOU MAY HAVE
Amazing they didn’t produce it – it’s awesome!
She’s a fantastic looker. Where does she live? Is she for sale?
Please contact me.
Agreed with Loupe Jr. Photos and info please.
Several years ago I bought the magazine which told the story of how this concept car came to be owned. It would be interesting to know what the current sale price is? GREAT LOOKING OLDSMOBILE FOR ITS DAY! I still have Oldsmobile Fever!
There was one on display at the museum in Gateway, CO for many years. I think the museum is closed now.
I don’t know what the current price is, but it sold at Barrett Jackson for
$3,240,000 a few years back.
I watched that sale live on TV and the guy who bought it for the owner, I think he owned Discover Channel, went crazy as he was buying it. I would too if it wasn’t my money being spent!
As noted, this car was at the Gateway Colorado museum for years until recently. With the museum closing, is the car just “moved” to another location or is a sale planned? I won’t be the buyer! But interesting to follow since I had visited the museum a number of times.
