Stutz may not have veered into the realm of multi-cylinder chariots like some luxury brands, but the Indianapolis automaker that “made good in a day” had an approach that arguably was more worthy: a dual overhead-cam straight-eight with four valves per cylinder. Called the DV-32 (“Dual Valve”), Stutz introduced this engine in 1931, adding to its unique portfolio of safety glass and low center of gravity. This short-wheelbase 1932 DV-32 Super Bearcat by Weymann best exemplifies the Stutz spirit, one that appeared at the crossroads of sport and luxury.   1. No, not willing to hit 105 mph on those tires and with those brakes if on open road. However, on a long isolated airplane runway I might give it a whirl.

  2. This is a great car, but very sad, as it will no longer be used as intended.
    This guy was designed and built to be flogged. Run hard, maintenance, run hard again.
    But it’s now too valuable.
    I think it’s very sad, to be a speed machine, condemned to sit in collections or museums, never to bellow in anger and provide your driver victory again. Sigh.

  3. I’m expanding my “Driveable Investment” car collection in major proportions. Fully operational rare performance cars from the prewar era are my primary focus.

    “De l’audace, encore de l’audace, et toujours de l’audace”
    Damn right I’d try to hit 105 as it’s almost the everyday cruising speed on I-25 in Colorado. I’m not afraid to take any of my old MOPARs or old F.I. Vette to 120 or more every now and then on our highway system.
