It takes commitment to keep a car going for over 30 years, and the original owner of a 5.0 Mustang is now ready to send it to a new home after several decades of ownership.

“I am the original owner of this ’91 Mustang,” the listing says. “I bought the car from Vista Ford in Woodland Hills on October 11, 1991. This is a great car and runs very well. It is unrestored and there is some wear, but they don’t come much better than this.”
The third generation of Ford’s popular pony car debuted for model year 1979 on the Fox platform. Design was done under Jack Telnack who served as Global Vice President of Design at Ford from 1980 through 1997. In addition to the Mustang, Telnack and his team were also responsible for the Taurus which provided a fresh new look to automotive design in 1986 that would heavily influence the industry for decades to follow.
Today’s drop-top Mustang looks to be original inside and out with exception of the radio which has been replaced with Kenwood Bluetooth-enabled setup. The driver seat bolster shows some wear, which the seller has shown in the photos accompanying the listing.
The unmodified, factory-original theme continues to the powertrain, where we find the 5.0-liter High-Output V8 mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Recent maintenance included replacement of the air conditioning compressor, clutch, convertible top and hydraulic system, and headlight assemblies. The car has 125,000 miles on the odometer, and the car is said to have received regular service over the years. “There are no engine or drivetrain leaks,” the seller says. “Brakes and tires are in good condition.”
The Mustang would receive a complete redesign for model year 1994 with rounder lines and revised powertrains. According to the Standard Catalog of American Cars, there were 20,181 Mustang convertibles produced for model year 1991. How many of those are still on the road today, let alone with their original owners? Probably not very many.
The listing concludes: “I hate to part with this car, but I have another project car and I’m running out of room. This car is in excellent shape, but it’s not perfect.”
