On Saturday, a lively crowd filled the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, brimming with excitement to discover firsthand what the Barrett-Jackson experience is all about. Their expectations were exceeded, judging by the cheers that erupted as the day unfolded with a whirlwind of activity throughout the venue and within the auction arena. Adding to the excitement was a visit by Cam Jordan, an eight-time Pro Bowler and all-time sack leader for the New Orleans Saints, who stopped by to take in the action on Super Saturday.
The other stars of the day were the auction cars, of course, reveling in the spotlight of the auction stage! The top-selling car on Saturday was a custom 1958 Chevrolet Corvette convertible (Lot #748). The crowd went wild when the iconic car sold for $660,000, setting a new auction world record. Other incredible vehicles landing in the Top 10 on the last day of Barrett-Jackson’s inaugural New Orleans Auction included two stunning 2005 Ford GTs: a Hennessey 1000, Lot #725, that brought in $495,000 and an original model, Lot #735, that sold for $418,000. A 1967 Ford Mustang Eleanor Tribute Edition (Lot #717) had the audience on its feet when it went to its new home for $440,000.
A true highlight of the day was the sale of a very special 1932 Chevrolet Woody custom wagon known as the “Honolulu Lulu” donated by Megan and George Shinn. Edward Graham, Chief Operating Officer at Samaritan’s Purse, joined Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson, along with Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis, on the block with the Shinns for the sale. The custom wagon with its matching custom trailer brought the gavel down on a winning bid of $100,000. In an incredibly charitable gesture, Michelle Mauzy – the winning bidder and longtime friend of the auction – donated the car back to be sold for a second time, raising an additional $75,000 thanks to winning bidder Ted Mcintyre. Barrett-Jackson VIPs Mike and Tracy Patterson donated an additional $100,000 to the cause. NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick and the Shinns each donated an additional $50,000 – bringing the total raised for Samaritan’s Purse and its disaster relief efforts in Maui to $375,000, with 100% of the funds raised going directly to the worthy cause.
Other top sales of the day included a 1954 Chevrolet custom pickup (Lot #782) for $330,000, while Lot #707, a 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle custom coupe, and Lot #730, a 2020 Lamborghini Huracan LP640-4 EVO, each crossed the world-famous auction block for $286,000.
It wouldn’t be Super Saturday without a few supercars. Joining the Lamborghini and Ford GTs in the Top 10 was a 2020 Aston Martin DB11 (Lot #701) that sold for $275,000 and a 2023 Maserati MC20 (Lot #723) for $253,000.
