Pick of the Day: 1995 Jaguar XJS

A Jaguar fit for royalty

-

In a Jaguar convertible, you can drive around feeling like royalty. After all, Princess Diana was known to cruise around in a British Racing Green 1987 XJ-S cabriolet. She was so fond of the car, in fact, that she had Jaguar add small rear seats to accommodate her young children at the time.

The Pick of the Day is a low-mileage 1995 Jaguar XJS roadster listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Salt Lake City, Utah. (Click the link to view the listing)

“This XJS is a rare find,” the listing begins. The seller goes on to explain how this Rose Bronze color was originally going to be produced as a one-off for Princess Diana following her ownership of the green one, and that there were eventually 17 such matching cars produced. This is one of those cars.

Showing just 54,010 miles, this roadster has reportedly been collector-owned its entire life and spent 23 years in Vancouver. Its condition is concours-worthy (and award-winning, according to the listing): The Vancouver owner took it to car shows where it reportedly won six Concours d’Elegance titles.

The XJS was initially launched as a luxury grand-tourer assembled in Coventry, England in 1975. Mechanical updates were carried out in 1981 when it received a new available “HE” (high-efficiency) V12 powerplant. In 1991, a cosmetic refresh applied changes to the side windows and the taillights, and the body style was eventually phased out after model year 1996 with a total of 27,406 produced.

Power up front comes from an “AJ6” 4.0-liter inline-six which was rated at 238 horsepower. The seller adds, “We purchased the car two years ago and have put 4,000 miles on the odometer. The car has full maintenance records and has been serviced by Precision European in Salt Lake City, Utah.”

The cabin is furnished in Oatmeal leather upholstery and there is generous gloss woodgrain trim throughout. The amenities are, as it were, “fit for royalty” indeed. Posed on the convertible boot is a plush jaguar stuffed animal that may come with the vehicle. We’ll have to ask the seller.

It would be neat to authenticate the specific data regarding the rarity of this car. One thing is for sure: it has been enthusiast owned. In fact, accompanying it in the seller’s garage in the photos is another Jag – this one a sedan with the license plate: BIG CAT.

The asking price is $29,900 or best offer for this XJS, which is a small price to pay to feel like a king or queen.
