AutoHunter Spotlight: Fuel-Injected 1965 Corvette Coupe

The last of the Fuelies

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this restored fuel-injected 1965 Chevrolet Corvette coupe. Built in November 1964 in St. Louis, it is one of 771 Corvettes built with the 327 and Rochester fuel injection. Notable features include Muncie M20 four-speed, telescoping steering column, AM/FM radio, power windows, four-wheel power disc brakes, and Kelsey-Hayes wheels. Finished in Milano Maroon metallic over a Saddle leather interior, this C2 Corvette comes with a clear title in the seller’s name.

Nineteen sixty-five was a pivotal year for the Corvette as it was an interim model, exploiting the best of the past while implementing the best for the future. Four-wheel discs were now standard, befitting a world-class sports car. An all-new, 425-horsepower big-block 396 also debuted in the beginning of the calendar year, which pretty much signaled the demise of the fuel-injected 327. Though the latter was much more in line with the Corvette’s sports car nature, it cost 45 percent more than the big-block, and sales reflected this.

During the restoration, this Corvette was refinished in the original code MM Milano Maroon hue. Exterior features include driver-side mirror and power antenna.

Code P48 15-inch Kelsey-Hayes cast-aluminum knock-offs are wrapped in P225/75R15 Goodyear Viva 2 whitewall radial tires.

The interior is furnished with code 421 Saddle leather buckets. Equipment includes a telescoping steering column, wood-rimmed steering wheel, AM/FM radio, the original analog clock, and power windows.

The instrument panel consists of a 160-mph speedometer, 7,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, battery, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The odometer shows 59,590 miles.

According to the seller, this Corvette features the numbers-matching drivetrain, which consists of the solid-lifter, 375-horsepower L84 327cid V8 equipped with Rochester fuel injection. Shifting is handled by a Muncie M20 four-speed manual gearbox. Photos in the gallery on the auction page show the small-block with the proper HG suffix.

Of course, this being a 1965 Corvette, four-wheel disc brakes bring this vehicle to a stop. J50 power assistance makes the job a bit easier.

A video of this Corvette’s exterior and interior, as well as the starting and idling of the engine, can be found on the auction page.

The online auction for this fuel-injected 1965 Chevrolet Corvette coupe ends on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. (PDT)
