AutoHunter Spotlight: LS2-powered 1931 Cadillac Restomod

A Caddy that zooms

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this frame-off restored 1931 Cadillac restomod. Based on the Series 355A chassis, this Cadillac coupe is powered by a LS2 V8 backed by a 4L65-E four-speed automatic transmission. Featured modern upgrades include suspension, brakes, steering and air conditioning. Finished in black cherry over custom maroon vinyl interior, this two-passenger classic Caddy comes with a clear Tennessee title.

During the restoration, the top was chopped 1.5 inches and the steel bodywork was finished in black cherry. Features include chrome headlight buckets and radiator shell with stone guard, custom door handles, shaved trunk lid handle, smooth color-matched running boards, and dual taillights. A walk-around video can be seen on the auction page

A set of 18-inch front and 20-inch rear color-matched knock-off Dayton wheels, plus the side-mounted spares, are wrapped in BFGoodrich g-Force T/A radial tires.

The custom black cherry interior was handled by Steve Holcomb of Pro Auto Custom Interiors of Knoxville, Tennessee. The front bucket seats are power-operated, with other updated features being power rack-and-pinion steering, power brakes, tilt steering column with automatic shifter, air conditioning and matching trunk upholstery. Vintage touches include a three-spoke banjo steering wheel and woodgrain trim.

The instrument panel consists of a set of vintage-look Classic Instruments gauges that includes a 140-mph speedometer, 8,000-rpm tachometer and readouts for the fuel level, voltage, coolant temperature and oil pressure.

Power is provided by a Cadillac CTS-sourced LS2 V8 paired with a 4L65-E four-speed automatic transmission. Features include body-color firewall, coil covers, custom fresh air intake tube, and Griffin aluminum radiator with electric fan. The battery has been relocated to the trunk, and gas is supplied by an aluminum fuel cell.

The reportedly original chassis has been reinforced and modified to accept a Kugel Komponents independent front suspension, stainless steel four-link rear suspension, and nine-inch Ford solid rear-drive axle with 3.73 gears. According to the selling dealer, the Cadillac is equipped with billet coilovers and has been lowered by nearly two inches. Wilwood power discs bring this Caddy to a standstill.

The auction for this LS2-powered 1931 Cadillac restomod ends on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. (PDT)
