Interesting Finds: 1969 Chevrolet Corvette ZL1

Got money and friends in high places? A ZL1 could be yours...

-

Today’s feature from AutoHunter Cinema is one of two Chevrolet Corvette ZL1s built in 1969. What made the ZL1 so special was its aluminum 427ci V8, a race engine in street clothes that was developed for the Can-Am race series that basically was an updated version of the iron-block L88 engine. Like the L88, the ZL1 was rated at 430 gross horsepower though, with uncorked headers, it’s thought to put out 560 horsepower. One requirement to get your hands on a ZL1 Corvette was lots of money, as the engine required an additional $4,718 on top of the base price of a Corvette, pretty much doubling the cost of the vehicle.

  1. I thought the white ZL1 and the Yellow one were the real deal with this Orange one being the one in question. The white Zl1 was owned by a celebrity and the Yellow one was taken back from a drug bust in the late 80’s or early 90’s.
