AutoHunter Spotlight: 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

America’s hot one during the Malaise Era

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. This T/A features the standard 400ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes Rally II wheels, Custom Trim Group with upgraded interior, and air conditioning. Finished in red over a black vinyl interior, this second-generation Firebird comes from the selling dealer with a clear title.

The Buccaneer Red exterior features a shaker hood, fender flares and optional “Screaming Chicken” hood decal, all classic trademarks of the Trans Am. Also featured are color-keyed racing mirrors and rear spoiler.

The 15-inch Rally II wheels have polished trim rings and are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires.

The cockpit is fitted with black vinyl high-back bucket seats with matching door panels, padded dash, center console and carpeting. The instrument panel is accented with engine-turned aluminum. Amenities include a Delco AM/FM/8-track stereo, tilt steering column and, out back, vinyl trunk mat.

Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, 8,000-rpm tachometer, clock and auxiliary gauges that show fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 19,766 miles, though the true mileage on the vehicle is unknown.

The reportedly numbers-matching, 225-horsepower 400ci V8 is fed via a four-barrel carburetor. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a reportedly numbers-matching four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

Steering is power-assisted. Stopping is handled by power-assisted disc brakes up front and drums in the rear.

The selling dealer has provided a video with description, start-up and vehicle walk-around, which can be seen below.

The auction for this 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am ends on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 4:20 p.m. (PDT)
