    • Hey Jeff! Thanks for the comment! You are correct, 292 is the base engine for the first gen Thunderbirds! We issued a correction on YouTube that had not made its way to the Journal yet. Thanks!

  1. Where’s the skirts ? Portholes where later standard on the 56 and 57. The 55’s had no portholes in the top that later was an option because the owners where complaining that they could not see the oncoming traffic when making a turn,….

  2. The base engine in 55 was the 292, then the 56’s and 57’s had 312. Also was added was the E code twin carbs on the 312. and later on the 57’s was the F code which had the super charger. If you find one at a great price get it.

  3. Hi Jeff,

I believe I have possibly the rarest 1959 Thunderbird.
I have not found any production records.
Is there an expert you can recommend that knows production numbers?
My 59 TBird has 3 rare options: J Code, One of 3154. Exterior color is a single tone special order Lincoln color called ‘Bluff’, I have only seen this color once on a 58 Lincoln, never on a TBird. How many J codes were painted in this same exterior color has to be low, 1-10, of 3154. The interior is single tone, redish tan, all leather, in color called hickory tan. 95% or so of all Thunderbird interiors were 2 tone. I believe this interior would have been ordered with very few other exterior colors, 1-75, of 3154.
