Adam Driver, Penelope Cruz and Shailene Woodley have been cast in Michael Mann’s upcoming Enzo Ferrari biopic, Ferrari, per a report from Deadline. Driver is replacing Hugh Jackman as Enzo Ferrari, with Cruz playing his wife, Laura, and Woodley will play Enzo’s mistress, Lina Lardi.
Mann will direct Ferrari from a script by Troy Kennedy Martin, based on the book Enzo Ferrari – The Man and the Machine by Brock Yates.
“Being able to have these wonderfully talented artists, actors Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz and Shailene Woodley, bring to life these unique characters on location in Modena and the Emilia-Romagna is a vision fulfilled,” Mann said.
Mann is a writer, director and screenwriter with four Academy Award nominations for such movies as The Last of the Mohicans, The Insider, Ali, and Collateral, and was the executive producer for Ford v Ferrari. Mann has been working on Ferrari for two decades and the passion project is set in the summer of 1957 as Enzo and his company face bankruptcy. The crisis is augmented by his struggling marriage and the death of his son.
Driver is a two-time Oscar nominee, leading actor in Marriage Story and supporting actor in the BlacKKKlansman and gained international fame for his role as Kylo Ren in the recent Star War movies.
Cruz won a best supporting role Oscar for Vicky Cristina Barcelona and is 3-time Oscar nominee. Woodley rose to fame with her role in the HBO series, Big Little Lies.
No release date has been set for Ferrari.
