Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is a 1964 Pontiac GTO.
“This 1964 Pontiac LeMans GTO two-door hardtop is presented as a 17,890-mile, rust-free muscle car with competition race heritage and supporting historical documentation,” AutoHunter notes in the listing.
Not only is the mileage low, but the consignor believes that most of those miles were clicked off while the car was being flat-towed by the original owner. The car went into storage after its racing career, and later was repainted in the Sunfire Red color, as detailed in an article in Hot Rod magazine in 2009.
“This GTO was originally delivered to Meadows Pontiac in Portland, Oregon and issued to its original owner who competed in the Winternationals race series in southern California in the subsequent years.”
Under the hood is a tri-power 389cid V8 engine paired with a Muncie M22 four-speed manual transmission and a 4.11 positraction rear end.
Included with the sale is a volume of documentation showing the GTO’s original build configuration, ownership history and racing heritage at the 1968 and 1970 Winternationals in Pomona, California. Documentation also includes 35-mm slides and 8-mm movies about its racing pedigree, build sheet, Protect-O-Plate, original owner’s manual and warranty book.
This sale includes the original but now disassembled M20 four-speed manual transmission, M&H drag slicks, spare cams and lifters. The original bell housing and dual exhaust system without mufflers are included.
The auction for this well documented and highly original GTO ends on December 14 at 12:00 p.m. MST.
