In 1958, Buick mixed luxury and comfort with its six-seater Caballero, also known as the Century Estate Wagon. The Caballero was Buick’s most expensive station wagon and arguably the most stylish with its pillarless hardtop.
Buick produced Caballero wagons for just two model years, 1957 and 1958, building a small total of 4,456 during the final production year.
The Pick of the Day is a rare 1958 Buick Caballero Century Estate Wagon that’s received a full concours restoration and shows just 22,000 original miles on the odometer, according to the Phoenix dealer advertising the wagon on ClassicCars.com.
“This Caballero is in concours condition today after receiving what was described as a frame-off restoration where all components had been thoroughly restored,” the dealer says. “It has been well-preserved and is today in gorgeous condition.”
We learn from the dealer that this Buick wagon has changed hands three times. The original owner from Santa Barbara, California, kept the wagon for 46 years before it was acquired by a collector who completed the restoration. It was sold in 2013 at a Gooding & Company auction in Pebble Beach, California, to its most recent owner. The dealer is selling the car on behalf of the late owner’s estate.
The body is finished in Midnight Blue with its rare hardtop finished in Glacier White. Bold exterior styling features include a large front grille made up of 160 chrome squares, dual headlights and chrome tailfins.
The interior is upholstered in a two-tone Red and White Cordaveen vinyl and houses “all the correct finishes and materials,” the dealer notes.
These Buick Caballero wagons came standard with a deluxe steering wheel, power steering, Sonomatic radio and a windshield washer with a wide-angle wiper.
Inside the detailed engine bay sits a 300-horsepower 364cid Fireball V8 linked to a Dynaflow automatic transmission.
With an original sticker price of $3,831, “the Caballero was the most luxurious and expensive station wagon offered by any division at General Motors,” the dealer adds.
This Buick Caballero is offered for $109,800.

My dad had the same Estate Wagon in 1958 but get this – Emerald Green with RED interior. By far the ugliest car I have ever seen and probably ever will. OH and more crome than the Chrysler
BUILDING.
This car has neither power windows nor air conditioning.
