Superformance, producer of 1960s-era continuation component sports cars, and Everrati, a British company that produces electric powertrains, have announced a partnership that will begin by electrifying the Superformance GT40.
“I’m very excited about the partnership we are announcing today.,” Superformance chief executive Lance Stander is quoted in the joint news release. “Justin (Lunny, Everrati founder) and the team at Everrati have a compelling vision for the future, along with the engineering pedigree and expertise to reimagine this automotive icon for the 21st century.
“While I will always love a V8-powered vehicle, there is no doubting the ultra-high performance of Everrati’s advanced EV powertrains.
“I am genuinely impressed with the lengths to which Everrati goes to maintain the weight distribution and character of the original car. Electrification is the future in so many ways and adds another option for those who love classic sports cars.”
The GT40 will be the first in a series of Superformance vehicles to be made available with electric powertrains. Everrati already has done EV versions of the Porsche 911 (964), Land Rover Series IIA, and Mercedes-Benz SL Pagoda.
“Everrati was founded to further the legacies of some of the most desirable and iconic cars in the world, redefining and precision re-engineering them with state-of-the-art electric drivetrains, maintaining and enhancing the character of the original,” according to the news release. “Each Everrati is fitted with a custom-designed electric power unit and battery system, leading to enhanced performance and a zero-emissions future.”
In regard to the GT40 EV, the companies said a prototype is built and is being developed “to maintain and enhance the character and soul of the original. Further details on this first new model from the partnership and reimagined icon will be announced in the coming months.”
Lunny termed the joint venture between his company and Superformance to be “the perfect partnership. The sole focus of both Everrati and Superformance is iconic cars and Lance and his team are the guys when it comes to authorized continuation chassis of some of the most legendary cars in history.
“Marrying these chassis with our advanced EV powertrains and precision engineering will enhance performance while keeping the essence and soul of the original,” Lunny noted. “We aim to create the best electric driver’s cars while, at the same time, future-proofing these true past masters.”
Absolute bollocks. I grew up in the era of GT 40s and helped with the setting up of classic racing cars, of which our team won many historic championships – and the single most redeeming factor of the GT 40 was the beautiful serpentine headers and the most fantastic sound.
This is just another example of cashing in on one of THE most beautiful race cars ever built.
No doubt this electric pretender will have push button sounds to appease the equally plastic over privileged clientele .
You sound like John Wayne in “Big Jake”, making fun of the horseless carriage. They had buttons to emit a fake horse apple smell. Time moves on, whether we like it or not. Can’t remember the last town I was in with hitching rails in front of every building.
