In Las Vegas, the city that never sleeps, sits the Shelby Heritage Center, where more than 30 rare Shelby vehicles and historical memorabilia are presented.
Shelby American president Gary Patterson welcomes award-winning radio and television personality Alan Taylor to the museum for an in-depth tour of the rare Shelbys while sharing memorable moments from Carroll Shelby’s life.
A few of the outstanding Shelbys Patterson and Taylor admire in this video include a 50th anniversary polished-aluminum 427 Cobra continuation car, a 50th anniversary Daytona coupe designed by Peter Brock also finished in polished aluminum, a 1965 GT350 finished in Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue stripes, a one-of-one 1967 Super Snake and many more.
During their tour, Patterson reflects on the incredible team with which Shelby surrounded himself to create such a lasting legacy:
“Carroll was smart enough to surround himself with people like Peter Brock and Phil Remington and Ken Miles; those were the guys that are in the trenches that get it done,” Patterson says. “We have the same thing here at our company today. Yeah, I’ve got the corner office, but it’s not about me; it’s about the team of people that work and put this together and get the job done. That’s what makes this a legacy. That’s what makes this continue on.”
As they wrap up, Taylor asks Patterson if EVs are in Shelby American’s future. Patterson’s response? A smile and a vague yet intriguing statement:
“Performance is our business and Carroll never defined performance as being gasoline cars, it could be a lot of different things. So, stay tuned for the next one.”
This video is part one of a series of conversations with Taylor and Patterson. Keep an eye out for part two.
I once saw a rare fastback 66 Shelby Hertz black and gold and probably once stolen.
It was missing the Shelby tag and the vin it was registered under was for a mustang but a 6 cyl notchback.
3 two barrels auto.
Just saying.
DID COBRA BUYERS KNOW THAT 428 ENGINES WERE USED IN some SUPPOSEDLY 427”s???
