Back in the 1960s, Ford asked Carroll Shelby to turn a secretary’s car into a racing machine and the result was the Shelby GT350 Mustang. But with the introduction of the electric-powered Mustang Mach-E crossover vehicle, Ford isn’t waiting for Shelby or anyone else to bump up the performance.
Instead, Ford has unveiled what it calls “Unbridled Extend” for its Mach-E GT and Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition, “a track- and closed-course-only mode extension for more performance-oriented traction and stability control – including a revamped interior sound.”
The package includes MagneRide suspension, Ford Performance front seats with copper metallic stitching, B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen with nine speakers and subwoofer, and a “unique illuminated pony badge.” Customers can order the cars online or at a Ford EV-certified dealer beginning April 28, the automaker said.
“With Mustang Mach-E GT and Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition, we’re pushing the boundaries of what an electric vehicle can offer,” Dave Pericak, the vehicle program director, is quoted in Ford’s announcement. “These Mustang Mach-E models not only give customers the added capability expected from the GT name, but the responsiveness of their electric powertrains will ensure they have a thrilling experience behind the wheel.”
The Mach-E GT comes with all-wheel drive — a secondary electric motor powering the front wheels — with 480 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. Ford says the car will hit 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.
The vehicle rides on 20-inch aluminum wheels with Continental all-season tires and red-painted brake calipers.
The Mach-E GT Performance Edition has the same horsepower but 634 pound-feet of torque, and gets larger brake rotors and high-performance Pirelli tires.
In addition, the E GT and GT Performance Edition can be equipped with Co-Pilot365 Active 2.0, Ford’s BlueCruise system for “hands-free highway driving.”
The Mach-E GT starts at $59,900 and Mach-E GT Performance Edition at $64,900. For more information, visit the Ford website.
Honestly, the very least they could have done would’ve been to make it resemble a Mustang.
This thing looks like an import.
I wish Ford had put all of this electric vehicle tech into the Mustang GT as an option at purchase. The Mach E is far from attractive and the only thing that IS attractive is the horse power and torque numbers. Putting all of this into an mini SUV that looks more like a bastardized version of an Escape. Plus putting the Mustang name, and the Mach title is just fundamentally WRONG! Had the done this to a real, honest to god Mustang? Now we have a vehicle to talk about! The Mach E name FITS a Mustang not crossover CUV. I know that’s only one man’s opinion, but I have been building, racing, and loving Mustangs since the 641/2 came through with a V8 motor. I think Ford should be embarrassed.
New Corvette or Mach e…. sorry for the same money not even a choice. The Mach e is a suburban grocery getter at best.
Very capable. But won’t attract women like my M4 convertible!
did you make the comment comparing the Bentley Coupe to its SUV brother — or Alfa, or Aston, or ???
The reason it has a big stereo system is to drown out the “no noise”…..plus the vehicle does look like an SUV .Two thumbs down.
Barf. If I wanted an SUV I’d buy one. This is absolutely terrible. I could care how fast it goes. IT HAS NO SOUL. What is a neutered Mustang? Well, to be truthful, you should have named it a “Gelding”.
The rear of the car is “Butt” ugly.
The front is attractive. At $ 60,000.00 no thanks.
My first car was a 69 Mach One 428 CJ. Currently have a 68 Cougar w/ built 429. I hate the whole electric vehicle and self drive world that we live in but I dont think its going away. If it must be, lets make it handle. Thats my take. Still Fords 4ever guy. Could use a little work on the aesthetics….
