Instead of a gathering of around 150,000 people at the Las Vegas Convention Center, the annual SEMA Show for 2020 has become an online experience. The show began November 2 with the first unveilings under the SEMA360 format.
Among those vehicles showcased were what Toyota termed “wave one of custom vehicles for adventures on- and off-road.”
Featured was a trio of modified Toyota Supras and an overlanding concept of the Tacoma TRD Off-Road pickup truck.
The Tacoma was reworked in consultation with 4WD Toyota Owner Magazine editors and features a Magnuson supercharger along with bikes, kayaks and gear for camping and hiking.
The set of Supras includes:
Ornamental Conifer — “This bold project features one-of-a-kind, eye-catching artwork by Ornamental Conifer, the moniker for British artist Nicolai Sclater who is art director at Race Service, the Los Angeles creative agency and culture hub connecting people who share a passion for car and pop culture,” said Toyota.”
Sclater started with a 2021 GR Super 3.0 Premium and added hand-lettered expressions — “True to Form” and “Lightning Response” — as a tribute to the lost art of sign painting.
GReddy Performance Formula D — This is the GR Supra driven in the Formula Drift Pro class by Ken Gushi.
“The build focused on three goals: efficiency, simplicity, and impact,” Toyota noted.
“As with all race cars, engineering a design that facilitates efficient and quick repairs can be the difference between winning and losing. The simplicity mandate pared down the package to only things needed in a pro drift racer, resulting in a simple and clean race car. Finally, impact – how the package resonates with drifting fans and accentuates the GR Supra’s already stunning design – provides the visual and performance ‘wow’ factor fans enjoy.”
Papadakis Racing Rockstar Energy Drink — Another Formula Drift Pro class entry, this one a 1,033-horsepower version driven by Fredric Aasbo; its build was featured in a 9-episode YouTube series.
