The merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the Peugeot group of carmakers moved another step closer with the announcement by the parties that their new joint name will be Stellantis.
“Stellantis is rooted in the Latin verb ‘stello’ meaning ‘to brighten with stars’,” the partners said, adding that the name “draws inspiration from this new and ambitious alignment of storied automotive brands and strong company cultures that in coming together are creating one of the new leaders in the next era of mobility while at the same time preserving all the exceptional value and the values of its constituent parts.”
However, the Stellantis umbrella will be used only at the “Group” level, as the corporate brand, the partners said, adding that a new corporate logo will be unveiled later.
“The names and the logos of the Stellantis Group’s constituent brands will remain unchanged.”
The automakers uniting under the Stellantis banner are Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, Lancia, Ram and Maserati from FCA, as well as the Mopar, Comau and Teskid parts and production components, and, from Groupe PSA, Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel and Vauxhall, as well as Free2Move mobility services.
The merger is expected to be completed in early 2021.
