Ride along with Jurgen Barth for a lap around Le Mans in 1977

His Porsche 936 exceeds 200 mph on the long Mulsanne Straight

-

On April 10, we shared in-car video as British racer Mike Hawthorne drove his Jaguar D-type around the Le Mans racing circuit in 1956. Today, we jump ahead a couple of decades with in-car video from 1977 as German racer Jurgen Barth takes his Porsche 936 around the circuit.

While the circuit is similar, except for the revised entry to the pit-area straightaway, one big difference between the videos — except that Hawthorne speaks in English and Barth in German — is that the track is closed except to racers during Barth’s lap, which is taken a full speed.

The only traffic Barth encounters is slower racers that he almost inhales as he soars past them, reaching well above 200 mph on the long Mulsanne Straight.
