Chrome was a big deal in 1958, and Chevrolet was all in, as evidenced by the Pick of the Day, a 1958 Chevy Impala 2-door hardtop that is a showcase of brightwork.
One of the most popular of all GM collector cars, the ’58 Impala was a single-year design, sandwiched between the’57 Chevy with its famous tailfins and the wildly flamboyant 1959 model with its over-the-top everything.
This was the first year for the Impala name, and it was applied as an upmarket version of the Bel Air. Among the signature chrome embellishments that set the Impala apart were the unique vent above the rear window and the splash of racy trim behind the doors.
“The ’58 Impala is always a great decision for a distinctive classic,” according to the Mesa, Arizona, dealer advertising the Chevy on ClassicCars.com. “After all, it’s the debut year for this legendary Chevy name, and it’s also a single-year design.
“They made sure this one stood out from the crowd even more with an investment in a respray of a crisp white and plenty of modern clearcoat to give it luster. And speaking of shiny things, the brightwork looks quite nice on the full-length trim, wraparound rear bumper, and all those jet-age details.
“There’s even added sparkle from upgrades like cat-eye headlights and 15-inch polished alloys.”
The seller refers to the Impala as a “show-worthy package” that has “a tidy look with the bright white paint; a tidy interior with plenty of classic details; and a tidy engine bay with updated V8 power.”
The “strong-running” V8 has been enhanced with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake, Hedman long-tube headers and dual exhaust, MSD distributor and an aluminum radiator. The odometer shows 47,827 miles, but there’s no indication in the ad whether that is original.
“The whole package was built for driving,” the seller adds. “That’s why you have a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes w/discs up front.”
This sounds like an enjoyable driver that’s sure to turn heads, and priced at $54,995.

I LOVE IT! May replace my longtime love 1967 Mustang.
The 1958 Chevy is a very special car and one of the most beautiful.
Now picture the same car in Black…where All of the chrome stands out, instead of totally washed out against the white. How anyone would pay over 50K for this little Chevy when you can have a ‘56 Cadillac Eldorado Seville in pretty darn good shape for 25K and take your time fixing it up. Look what you’ve got when you’re done! Pure Insanity!!
We had a 58 chevy belair years ago.
Loved that car.
Wish I had one today.
With coil springs, they couldn’t handle nearly as well as a 57 Chevy.
Looks like it’s a 283, my 348 Wedge was much quicker!
Nice Car…for way less than 1/2 the asking price…
I have one, with the 348 3 carbs drive it and love !!!!!!!!! black and clean. Ray mace kansas.
I owned a 58 Chevy yellow convertible. It was by far the best, fun, looks, and the girls loved going for a ride. I wish I still had this great car. I am determined to own one again.
In Canada we also had a Pontiac Parisienne in same frame as the Chevrolet. Looked very nice also and a little plusher.
Neither of them could keep up to the Ford or Chrysler car on twisty gravel roads.
I had a 58 Delray.
Bravo to Ronald c. Simpson for telling it like it is! What do you think of my ‘56 Eldo hardtop coupe comparison Ron?
I wish the owner wanted a great street rod, i wood trade in a heart beat for that 58 it is beautiful!
I drove a 58 Impala convertible blue with white top till 1964. My favorite of all that i have owned
Beautiful car, remember me my brothers BelAir many years ago in Lima, Peru
Had one and one favorite I had. Bought many new as I am 82. But price way above going at high end auction. Nice black at Mechan went for $26,000. Would probably buy one for that price.
Wish l had one!
I have 3 1958’s Impala, Yeoman – 2 dr. wagon, both Cal. cars. Also have a Brookwood 4 dr. wagon. 58’s are a KOOL thing, starting to get attention. This white 58, well look better in a diff color where one could see the chrome. The horn ring is wrong, 58 horn ring is complete, not half, but has been made to owner’s likes.
Nice car had nice 59
Notice all the Switches on the Dashboard and the dimer switch on the floorboard
Some people just like to bash anything that might not be “their perception” of the perfect car. Whether it’s a Ford, a Mopar or Chevy they can all lose a race. Yes I’m sure the Mopar guys don’t agree. Lol. This is a beautiful ride as is,I don’t care who you are.
Is this 58 Chevy still available.where is it located?
Article was from 4 years ago, so unlikely, but you need to reach out to the seller. Follow the links in the story.
