Historic Sportscar Racing will join Masters Historic Racing to stage the new Finger Lakes Wine Festival vintage racing weekend, July 9-12, 2020, at Watkins Glen International Raceway, HSR has announced.
The new event will include the Masters Historic Formula One USA, Masters Endurance Legends USA series, HSR Group 5, as well as “select invitational entries representative of other HSR classes.”
“We have been looking for a chance to bring HSR to the legendary Watkins Glen International circuit and are grateful to everyone at Masters Historic Racing for giving us this fantastic opportunity,” HSR president David Hinton said in making the announcement. “Group 5, and the select other entries we will bring, will perfectly complement the Masters Historic Formula One USA and Masters Endurance Legends USA competition throughout what will be a great weekend of racing.”
“Masters has been persistently working on the chance to take our grids to race at Watkins Glen for a number of years,” added Ron Maydon, founder of the vintage racing group. “So, when we finally found the right opportunity to race at this mecca of American Grand Prix racing, it seemed like a perfect idea to invite HSR to bring a grid along and share in the event with us”
HSR’s Group 5 comprises big-bore sports cars and sedans produced from 1967-1975 and includes Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Corvettes and Porsche 911s.
“Toasting the summer, the Finger Lakes Wine Festival (July 10-12, 2020) is an experience for all, wine aficionado or casual festival goer,” Watkins Glen says on its website. The event features more than 90 New York State wineries and includes live music performances, tastings, seminars and cooking demonstrations.
