The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2020 with a unique class, inviting every Best of Show winner to return for the August 16 event.
“Each of these cars is special in its own right,” concours chair Sandra Button said in a news release. “Many were the epitome of elegance in their day, or they exhibited the latest technology. They made history when new — and they also made history right here, winning the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
“In a way they define us. So a celebration of the concours is, naturally, a celebration of these cars.”
The Best of Show class, which could include “a multitude” of past winners among the 200 concours vehicles on display, is among a variety of featured classes announced for the 2020 show, held on the 18th fairway of the Pebble Beach Golf Links on California’s Monterey Peninsula.
Other features include 90 Years of Pininfarina, Porsche 917 race cars, Early Electric Vehicles, Talbot Lago Grand Sport, Carrera Pan Americana winners, Miller race cars and Iso Rivolta.
The concours has a well-honed system of choosing vehicles for what’s considered the most-prestigious such event in the US, and among the top in the world. About 1,000 potential concours entries are vetted by a group of 15 automotive experts to select the 200 accepted for the show. Entry applications for 2020 are due January 6.
“Entry applications have been sent to many regular participants, but anyone with a car they believe to be of concours quality and to fit in any of the featured or regular classes may ask for consideration,” according to the news release. “Fully a third of the field each year consists of first-timers.”
