Hyperdrive, a new Netflix series that debuts August 21, introduces a form of performance driving on perhaps the largest and most outrageous automotive obstacle course built so far. The 10-episode series challenges drivers who come from various types of driving styles, competitive backgrounds and even different skill levels.
Among them, Karolina Pilarczyk is a Formula Drift Pro2 driver currently competing in the same series as the ClassicCars.com-sponsored driver, Andrew Schulte. Another familiar face is Aaron Parker, a Formula Drift ProAM driver known for his DIY videos on Instagram and is also a mechanic for Pro1 drift driver Odi Bakchis. Most drivers seen in the preview aren’t celebrity or professional drivers, but seem to be more on the enthusiast level with some on track experience.
As seen in the teaser trailer for the series, drivers are drifting, driving in the wet, drive on a “see-saw” called “The Leveler,” and maneuverig through various obstacles at the Kodak Eastman Business Park site in Rochester, New York.
The course has been designed to present an ultimate test of skill, according to producers that include Charlize Theron, who plays Cipher, a cypber terrorist in the upcoming Fast & Furious 9.
Not much has been released by Netflix beyond the trailer, but it should be interesting to see relatable drivers attempt extraordinary things utilizing builds of their own and on a variety of chassis.
