Tractor made by Henry Ford for his grandchildren up for sale

-

A 5/8-scale Fordson tractor designed and built by Henry Ford for his grandchildren will be auctioned April 13 in Illinois, according to an auction docket.

The tractor will be offered by Aumann Auctions — which specializes in real estate, personal property, vintage power, collectibles and other sales -– during the Pre ’30 Auction in Nokomis, Illinois. The town is more than an hour’s drive northeast of St. Louis.

Aumann Auctions said Ford scaled down the tractor so it could be driven by a young boy. Created with Model T chief engineer Gene Farkas, the tractor was ready for Ford’s four grandchildren in 1925. The tractor was built from Model T and Fordson tractor parts as well as specially designed and cast components.

The lot description said it was owned by the Henry Ford Museum for a time but was sold in 1982.

The tractor, which retains some of its original paint, will be offered with documents from the 1982 sale.
