The vintage tractors offered up for bidding at the annual Spring Classic auction staged by Mecum’s Gone Farmin’ division went to new owners at a spectacular 95 percent sell-through rate, and total sales exceeded $5 million at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa, the auction house announced.
More than 970 lots, vintage tractors and farm-related Road Art, were offered up for bidding during the two-day event.
The high-dollar sale of the auction was $178,500 for a 1961 John Deere 8020 from the Dave Haala Collection. The machine is powered by a Detroit Diesel 6-71 GM 2-cycle, 6-cylinder engine that can generate more than 200 horsepower.
Runner-up for overall sales honors was another tractor from the Haala Collection, this one a vintage steel-wheeled Aultman and Taylor 30-60 that brought $141,750.
“Dubbed the ‘King of Road builders’ because of its massive power, strong endurance and record-breaking economy, the 30-60 played an important role in building the infrastructure of the United States,” Mecum noted.
