“California Dreaming” will be the overarching theme as the Petersen Automotive Museum celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2019, museum officials announced Sunday at their annual news briefing during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

At least five special exhibitions will be launched during the year-long event, the first this fall with “Auto-Didactic: The Juxtapoz School” featuring the work of innovative artist Robert Williams.

Other exhibits will include “Made in L.A.,” “California Collecting,” “Hollywood Drives,” and “Imagining the Future.”

Race cars built in California and outlaw motorcycles also will be featured as part of the California Dreaming project.

Also in the works is an exhibition being created in cooperation with car collector and rocker Nick Mason, drummer for Pink Floyd, that museum officials promise “will rock the free world.”  Mason was present at the Pebble Beach briefing.

The museum also said it will stage a special event this fall to honor Parnelli Jones, the famed Southern California auto racer.
