Final Fox ’93 Ford Mustang Cobra

-

The Fox-body Ford Mustang had a long run, arriving for 1979 to replace the unloved Mustang II and put the pony car back on track. But by 1993, its time had come and Ford was preparing to replace it with an all-new Mustang.

So rather than merely let the Fox fade away, the automaker did something special and created a limited-edition performance model that became a one-year-only combination of Fox and Cobra.

Seven-spoke alloy wheels are factory original

The Pick of the Day is one of fewer-than 5,000 cars produced, a 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra, black with a gray interior and said to be in time-warp factory condition with just over 46,000 miles on its odometer.

“With the aging Fox body due for a redesign and the next generation Mustang release a year out, Ford turned to its SVT to freshen up the Fox body for one last hoorah,” according to the St. Louis, Missouri, dealer advertising the coupe on ClassicCars.com.

“The interior is in excellent original condition, free… from sun-damaged plastic or any modifications from factory condition. The driver’s side bolster has some light wear, but that’s about it. Even the original factory ‘Cobra’ mats are still in place. Unlike many of these cars, this one is equipped with the factory sunroof.”

The condition of the interior is testament to the Mustang’s low mileage

For ’93, the Mustang Cobras were upgraded by the Special Vehicles Team with “off-the-shelf” components, including GT40 cylinder heads and revised camshaft for the 5.0-liter V8, which produced 235 horsepower, Borg-Warner 5-speed manual transmission and four-wheel performance disc brakes. Other enhancements included body modifications, rear wing, leather seats, 17-inch spoke wheels and special Cobra badging.

This Mustang is an interesting piece of Ford performance engineering and could be an investment of rising future-classic value, as well as most-certainly a fun car to own and drive. As the seller notes, these don’t come along very often in original, unmolested condition.

The asking price of $29,900 is above average for the Fox Cobra, but probably right in line with this car’s unusually fine presentation.
