The 50th anniversary of the 1968 Chevrolet Corvette, the first of the C3 models patterned after the famed Mako Shark concept car, will be highlighted during the Corvettes at Carlisle show, the organizers have announced.
The 2018 showcase of all things Corvette, ranging from the first 1953 models to the latest seventh-generation models, will be held August 23-25 at the Carlisle, Pennsylvania, fairgrounds.
The redesigned 1968 Corvettes are well-worth celebrating as they advanced the performance sports car that competed with exotic Europeans but at everyman pricing, according to a Corvettes at Carlisle news release.
“With 28,566 produced in ’68, they were a bargain, rolling into dealerships with a base price of $4,663,” the news release notes. “This price was just $423 more than the final year of the C2 and offered all-new removeable T-top roof panels as well as a new interior and exterior look.
“While the inner workings remained similar to the previous year’s model, the bells and whistles such as a three-speed Turbo Hydra-matic transmission helped make this new offering from Chevrolet a success.”
As well as the 50th anniversary display, the massive gathering of Corvette aficionados will be treated to “a unique showcase of Cooksey Corvettes, the always popular American Flag comprised of Corvettes, seminars, installs, an all-new take on Autocross which offers a $1,000 prize backed by Lingenfelter Performance and the chance to win a new Corvette,” the release says.

Custom cars and bikes in Buffalo
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow, because for the eighth year in a row, the Buffalo Motorama will be celebrated indoors at the Buffalo Convention Center in New York.
Held March 29-31, the Motorama proclaims itself as “the BIGGEST and BEST indoor custom car and bike show in Western New York.”
Seriously, the Motorama brings together some of the top builders of custom cars and motorcycles, along with a full range of classics, hot rods, racers and pro street machines, along with special events and contests.

New concours d’elegance announced
The inaugural Cigar City Concours d’Elegance will take place November 10-11 at the Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida, the organizers announced. True to the name, each days’ event will feature live cigar rolling.
The weekend starts Saturday with the Cigars & Cars show of exotic sports and luxury cars, featuring Lincoln, Zephyr & Continental from Leland to the introduction of the MK III in 1969. The overall theme of the event is “Transformation of Transportation.”
Sunday, the Cigar City Concours takes place with a century of classic automobiles on display with official judging and special recognition of Lincoln Motor Cars. A special concours class will feature Period Correct Hot Rods from 1932 to 1955 and Muscle Cars from 1955 to 1970.

The Passion of Alfa Romeo will be celebrated by the Forest Grove Concours d’Elegance, held July 15 on the grounds of Pacific University in Forest Grove Oregon.
The concours will includes a number of classes spanning the decades of the Italian sports car brand. The event also will mark the 30th anniversary of hometown heroes, Sports Car Market Magazine, and its publisher, the unapologetic Alfa Romeo fanatic Keith Martin.

I just discovered your company yesterday while looking to regain my youth by purchasing a white 1963 Buick Lesabre Convertible. I missed that one but I spoke to Mike and he was a good guy. So now I stumbled upon your 1968 Corvette feature. Being a deprived child I had to wait until 1969 before I was 18 and my old money WASP attorney father took me to The Chevy Dealership to purchase a 427 Corvette Coupe. I went for the 390 h.p. model so I I could get leather, air, ps, pb, side pipes and a 3:55 posi rear..I still have the car today. Yet when people find out it’s 390 horse; they sneer at me..It’s 2018. Do you have any idea how much fun at age 66 I still have with that car? And even today, it’s still a babe magnet!!
