Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the 70th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance won’t take place until August 2021. So what does the crew that organizes such an event do with some time on its hands? In Pebble Beach’s case, it launches a new website featuring a link to a new digital monthly Insider magazine.
“Although we may not be able to gather in person together this year, we hope that each monthly issue serves as a way for us to remain connected to each other — and continues to fuel the passion of the car enthusiast community we all cherish so dearly,” the concours team said in announcing the inaugural digital issue.
“In this June issue, Paolo Pininfarina shares some family history and discusses many of his favorite cars, we unveil the poster art for the 2021 Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance presented by Rolex, and we honor our first decade of Best of Show winners.”
The June issue spans 34 “pages.” On them, you can read, among other articles:
- A “letter” from chairman Sandra Button that compares dealing with the pandemic to her experience “pushing our London to Brighton car, a Lenawee, uphill (not to mention trying to douse the fire under its seats while barreling across a finish line in Brighton).”
- A reprint of the late actor/car collector Edward Hermann’s 2009 essay, “Collecting Cars Amidst a Crisis.”
- See the Best of Show-winning cars from the 1950s.
- Learn about Pininfarina’s history and see its cars that have been displayed at the concours.
