Two new events and a new venue highlight Historic Sportscar Racing’s 2019 schedule, the vintage racing sanctioning body announced Monday. The group expects an additional announcement soon regarding a new road-rally style event.
The new races are the Spring Fling, scheduled for March 28-31 at Sebring, Florida, and the inaugural Barber Historics to be staged May 17-19 at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.
In addition, the sanctioning body said it is “close” to announcing final details for its first touring/road rally event.
“Close competition and camaraderie on and off the track have always been at the foundation of HSR events, but recently our member competitors have been asking us to look into an automotive event with a bit more focus on the social side” HSR president David Hinton was quoted in a news release.
“We have seen manufacturer partners organize such ‘fun run’ events around HSR weekends in the past, but our competitors focused on racing couldn’t participate.
“Most have street-going classics just as impressive as their historic race cars, so we are finalizing details for a road-going event in the first part of the summer, away from a race weekend, that will let our member competitors enjoy a different type of motoring event with their friends and competitors from the track.”
