Interesting Finds: Superformance Corvette Grand Sport

With Lance Stander of Superformance

-

Today’s AutoHunter Cinema feature is a Corvette Grand Sport replica built by Superformance. The original Grand Sport has its genesis in late 1962 when Chevrolet engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov set out to build 125 Corvette race cars for international race circuits, culminating with the GT class at the 24 Hours of LeMans. After a run of five cars, General Motors brass cancelled the project and ordered the cars destroyed due to the company’s reaffirmation of the Automobile Manufacturers Association racing ban. This particular car is GS001, the first Grand Sport that Superformance built over 13 years ago. It is powered by a period-correct 377ci small-block with cross-ram manifold and Webers.
