Lamborghini Celebrates 60 Years of Giving Ferrari the Finger

Italy’s other exotic car company continues to show Mondena what it’s got

It’s been said that Ferrari is your trophy wife while Lamborghini is your hot affair. Ferruccio Lamborghini’s first cars were fine competitors to Enzo’s, but the Miura truly showed that there was a new sheriff in town. Then there was the Countach, which was one of those follow-ups that clearly was no sophomore slump. Lots of greatness came from Sant’Agata in-between and after, and it all of it will be marked in Lamborghini 60th Anniversary celebrations around the world.

Organized by Automobili Lamborghini, the first of the worldwide celebrations for Lamborghini fans and owners alike already occurred, with the January 19th debut of the remodeled Lamborghini Museum, which is located in the area of the original Lamborghini factory in Sant’Agata. There also is a commemorative exhibition, “The Future Began in 1963.”

On February 23rd, Suzuka, Japan residents and visitors will be able to celebrate Lamborghini Day Japan — 60th Anniversary. As the first of the international Lamborghini commemorative events, it’s bound to have plenty of eye-candy and enjoyment considering Japan is an important market for the Italian company.

Then, on April 29th, Silverstone Circuit will open its facilities for Lamborghini Day UK, to be followed by a return to Italia for the 60° Anniversario Giro (“60th Anniversary Tour”) on May 28th. The main square in Bologna will play host to Corcorso in Piazza, a concours d’elegance and celebration where cars and folks converge to toast the glorious and scrappy history of Lamborghini.

Sometime in September 2023, Lamborghini’s 60th Anniversary celebration will go East once again. Giro China, a Chinese event now in its ninth year, will play host to owners and enthusiast in Lamborghini’s second-largest market. The event will culminate with the 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner. Also in September, Lamborghini Polo Storico (the division that protects, preserves and restores the brand’s heritage) marks a return to Italy for the 60th Anniversary Polo Storico Tour reserved for Lamborghini classics.

Then, in October, the Vallelunga circuit in Rome will host the Lamborghini Festival. This event, the granddaddy of Lamborghini celebrations and hosted by the House of Sant’Agata Bolognese, will celebrate all street-going and track-oriented Lamborghinis and will be open to all fans. It will be followed up in November with a return to Vallunga for the Grand Finals of the Super Trofeo Lamborghini, a championship features only Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 race cars. Cars from three continents are expected to attend the race and celebration.

Lamborghini Clubs from around the world, currently 24 countries strong with more than 1600 members, are planning anniversary tours and events in their respective countries as well as in Italy, with the final destination being Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata.

American enthusiasts will have to wait for more information, but the 60th Anniversary Giro will be scheduled for the summer of 2023.
