Pick of the Day: 1969 Land Rover Series IIA

A Land Rover fit for royalty

-

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II represented all that was great about England. In 1944 she joined the military against the wishes of her father, King George. The King ensured that Elizabeth “was not given a special rank in the Army”. She trained as a driver and mechanic with the rank of Second Subaltern, and was promoted five months later to Junior Commander. On June 2nd of 1953 she was crowned Queen and during her 70-year reign advised 13 British Prime Ministers, met with 13 U.S Presidents, as well as leaders from practically every country. She is now and will always be an icon of all that is great about Britain.

In honor of this great woman my Pick of the Day is another British legend and a make she loved: a 1969 Land Rover Series IIA painted in Marine Blue with a black interior. The Queen loved Rovers and there is a story of when she drove the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia around the Balmoral estate in one and scared him to death.

This classic Land Rover is being offered on ClassicCars.com by a dealer in Kentwood, Michigan. It’s described in the listing as having received a nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration with no expense sparred. The body was removed, disassembled and restored with factory-correct paint and parts. It’s in superb condition and is has been repainted in factory-correct Marine Blue.

The listing also states that the engine compartment is highly detailed and that this Rover Series IIA is ready for whatever you care to throw at it, be it on or off road.

These legendary vehicles are getting harder and harder to find in nice condition for anything approaching an affordable price. This one, which is priced at only $44,900, looks to be the only one that could be considered bargain priced on ClassicCars.com.

With interest in these classic Land Rovers growing this may well be the time to pull the trigger and add one to your garage. I am sure that the Queen Elizabeth would have approved.
