AutoHunter Spotlight: 1987 Buick Grand National

The last of the breed

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1987 Buick Grand National.

This 1987 Buick Grand National is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 3.8-liter V6 engine backed by an automatic transmission. Power features include windows, locks, driver’s seat, steering and brakes. Additional features include cruise control, tilt steering and AM/FM/cassette stereo. This Grand National comes from a Minnesota selling dealer with the original window sticker, owner’s manual, a clean CARFAX report and a clear title.

The exterior of this Grand National is (naturally) finished in black. Under previous ownership, the body received a new clearcoat in the mid-2000s, but it was not repainted. Grand National features included color-keyed bumpers, grill, headlight trim, wheel opening moldings, side mirrors and rear spoiler. Like on all turbo Regals, the Grand National has a domed hood with “3.8 SFI TURBO” script. The selling dealer states that the filler panel below the rear license plate is cracked. A complete walk-around video can be seen in the gallery on the auction page.

A set of 15-inch black and chrome Grand National wheels is wrapped in 215/65 Goodyear Eagle GT tires.

The front bucket seats and matching rear bench seat are upholstered in black and gray cloth, complemented by a gray dashboard and door panels, and black carpeting with matching Turbo-6 floor mats. Additional features include center console, tilt steering column with gray leather-wrapped steering wheel, AM/FM/cassette stereo and air conditioning. Power features include windows, locks, driver’s seat, steering and brakes. The selling dealer states that the headliner is sagging in the middle.

An 85-mph speedometer, fuel gauge, and digital 6000-rpm tachometer and turbo boost gauges are mounted ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 34,000 miles and is in line with the mileage shown on the CARFAX report. A Potential Odometer Rollover entry was made in August 2002 when the indicated mileage was 20,170 miles.

Power is provided by a turbocharged and intercooled 3.8-liter V6 factory-rated at 245 horsepower. Like all turbo Buicks, it’s backed by an automatic transmission. Underhood features include power steering, air conditioning and cruise control. All turbo routing, emissions components and air intake are original and in place.

This Grand National was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and solid rear axle. Braking is provided by power front disc and rear drum brakes. The exhaust still retains its factory position. Additional photos of the undercarriage can be seen in the photo gallery.

The CARFAX report starts in June 1992 and shows an accident-free vehicle history in Minnesota. The last reported mileage of 33,303 was recorded in July 2008. The selling dealer will include the original window sticker and owner’s manual with the sale.

The auction for this 1987 Buick Grand National  ends on Friday, September 16, 2022, at 12:20 p.m. (PDT).
