Question of the Day: What is your favorite Toyota Celica?

-

The Toyota Celica was a sporty compact that evolved into the Supra in 1986. During its 35-year run Toyota offered a very distinct model in each generation, but maintained the spirit of the original.

So dear readers, What is your favorite Toyota Celica?

Give us your take in the comments section. Like my high school history teacher always told me, “There are no wrong answers.”

My take? 1985

  1. My 1983 Toyota Celica GTS, but it would have been the ’83 Supra (if I could afford it at the time). I loved the rims and tires, too.

    • I have an 1985 Toyota Celica that has sporadic starting difficulty every 6 months or so.it gets spark but no fuel. Any idea ?

  2. I had a 1986 Celica GTS.
Loved that car. I was so sad to let that go.
I took that car across the country a few times going back and forth to college.

I still prowl the internet looking for one.

I did love the 1985 GTS hatchbacks too.
RWD and a stick shift. That’s heaven.

  3. Had an ‘83 GTS. Loved the “stance” and the styling. But no good on slippery roads….rear wheel drive, light in the rear end, and wide tires. Traded for an ‘86 GTS. Front wheel drive. Nice, fun car.

  4. The 7th generation Toyota Celica GTS with the trd action package was the best one of all. It came a slick body style with a great engine made by Yamaha. It came with a 1.8L 2zz-ge engine with (VVTLI)variable valve lift intelligence. It made 180hp with 130 torque. It had the best look and a 0-60 in 6.5 sec. It has a curb weight of 2500lb and did a quater mile in 14.6 sec. It has the looks and had the quickness on its time. The seventh gen Celica where built from 1999-2006.

There has been many polls done in Facebook and other media outlets and the last gen one all the time as the best gen Celica.

  7. In my opinion and I’ve had two of them the 76 Toyota Celica GT those were the best ones that they ever made I’m trying to find one now but they’re so expensive

  8. I had a 77 Celica GT, 79 Celica GT then I got a 79 Celica/Supra with the inline 6. Very smooth engine. I was a salesman at a Toyota dealership so I got some nice trades they didn’t want to retail. I then got an 85 Celica GTS. 87 Supra & then a 93 Celica All-Trac. My favorite was the 87 Supra.

  9. I had a 72 and a 77 the 77 was the GT fast back silver with black vinyl top, I got it right of the show room floor. To me it was the best, it haD style great power and was fun to drive, oh yea and it got a lot of looks !!!!!

  10. I test drove and loved a 1986 Celica Supra. The salesman told me to wait 6 months for the 86.5 Supra. I bought the first manual 86.5 Supra they got in. I know. The 86.5 isn’t a Celica, but it’s the 86 that started the love.

Still kicking my self for buying a Vette over a 1996 Supra Turbo though.
