AutoHunter Cinema: World Record $1.65 million 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird [4K]

A record setting Mopar

-

This 1970 Plymouth HEMI Superbird broke a world’s sale record at the 2022 Barrett Jackson Las Vegas auction. This vehicle is 1-of-135 cars equipped with the 426ci HEMI engine, and the engine is paired with a 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission.

The 1970 Plymouth Superbird was produced for one-year. Lessons were learned from the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona that gave the Superbird improvements to the grille, wing and nose cone. There was even speculation that the 1970 Plymouth Superbird was introduced to win back Richard Petty from Ford.

The Superbird and other aero cars would dominate NASCAR super speedways until rule changes led to the ban of aero cars in 1971.
