Question of the Day: Do you like the Mazda Miata?

-

It was the Japanese take on the classic British roadster. The Mazda Miata made its debut in 1989 and since its debut in 1989 and since then more than 1,000,000 have been sold.

So dear readers, Do you like the Mazda Miata?

Vote and give us your take in the comments section. Like my high school history teacher always told me, “There are no wrong answers.”

My Take? Yeah, sporty and nimble. Plus reliable. That’s a great combo.

  1. I’ve owned my 1999 10 AE for 19 trouble free fun filled years. It has adequate power and great handling. The gearbox shifts smoothly. After all these years it still goes to redline without a complaint. Still wish it had an overdrive instead of the sixth gear. I’ve added the Racing Beat intake, Racing Beat exhaust header and Racing Beat exhaust which all work together for great sounds.

  2. I’ve owned my 2016 MX-5 for four years and have done many upgrades including Edelbrock Supercharger. What was fun to drive before the upgrades my car just got even better. Reliability, sporty and nimble just make the car a pure driver’s car. I get many compliments about the looks and many comments like “it must be a blast to drive”.
Yes, yes it is…I say with a huge smile!

  3. I owned a 1991 NA 5-spd for 20 years. My car was quite stock other than the MINI “holey” wheels and an upgraded stereo system. Absolutely wonderful car to own & drive and probably the most reliable car I have ever owned.

It was always fun to get into that car. I only sold it because I didn’t have room for it when I replaced it with a 2008 Boxster, 6-spd (Which is even more fun to drive and a lot more comfortable).

  4. I just retired as a car dealer, U sold 150 Miatas (preowned) and NEVER had a problem with any of them! My customers had nothing but good remarks after owning them for awhile, I kept a 2013 “Club” with the folding hard top for myself and love driving it around the many lakes in The Finger Lakes Region in upstate NY.. Having owned Ferrari’s, Aston-Martins, the Miata is much more fun to drive, NEVER breaks, easiest car to maintain, grets 33 mpg and as I’m only 5’6″ tall it suits me just fine for room,
I feel it is the best sports car ever made, the best build quality, easiest and cheapest to maintain, and puts smile on my face every time I drive it! Get one and see for yourself!

  5. Among the 45 cars that I have owned was an Austin Healy, Porsche powered Karman Ghia, three 356 Porsches, Spitfire, Sunbeam Tiger, MB230SL, BMW700, ‘a 95, two 10AE SE’s, and presently a ‘00 Emerald Grn Miata I loved them all, but the Miatas are way high at the top of the list. especially the two 10AE Special Editions that I sold when we moved to the Bahamas for 5 years. I had to buy another one when we got back here. The only thing that I would change would to be slightly bigger. The perfect car!

  6. Being a Brit car lover since the 1950s. I think Mazda has done a great job keeping the concept open.
Never owned one but have a friend with a nice original. He is having a lot of fun with it.
I am still suffering with the English iron.

  7. I have had many sport cars throughout the years, MGB, Karmann Ghia convertible, Porsche convertibles, Lexus Convertibles, Lancia Beta Coupe, Mitsubishi Spyders, 2017 Fiat 124 Spider / Made by Mazda but with a Fiat engine made in Italy & shipped to Mazda with many, many problems& discontinued with poor quality & poor sales & now have a 2021 Mazda MX5 contvertible & some of my cars were faster & more comfortable but none can beat the quality & trouble-free car year after year after all model years & still be a great trouble-free & lightweight & still at an affordable price even more trouble-free than cars many times the price.

  8. I bought one of the first Miatas in 1990. I grew up driving MGAs and TR3s in the late 50’s and early 60’s. The Miata reminded me of those cars, except, unlike those British roadsters, you were pretty sure that you would arrive safely at your destination! The only change I made from the original was to fit her with some Dayton wire wheels. BTW, I still have the car. She just turned 32 and still going strong.

  9. The car is great. Being 6’1”, it’s just too small for me. I really, really wanted a new RF, but was too big for the car.

  10. My 1990 Miata, purchased in August 1989, has one wheel drive. How many of those (one wheel) drive Miata’s were made and sold in the US? PS: I still have this 33 year old vehicle which remains in good shape!
    Regards, Chuck
