Happy Saturday! Today’s Question of the Day is pretty simple, What is your favorite Volkswagen?

Give us your take in the comments section. Like my high school history teacher always told me, “There are no wrong answers.”

My take? The Jetta, I’ve owned two and I dug them both. They were underpowered, but good on gas and reliable.

A part of me wanted to answer Herbie, but I’ll stick with the Jetta.

  1. We bought a bug back in 1955, a 1956 model. The only difference was the ’55 had turn signals which popped out behind the side windows, while the ’56 models had them mounted on the fenders. Ours was black, while most of the previous VW’s were a terrible mix of colors. We had a couple more after that, but I wish we had kept the ’56 model. However, I was able to sell ours for $300 dollars more than our purchase price of $1,600.00, that was a lot of money in 1955.

    • My uncle had a VW Beetle for a work car with those pop out turn signals. He had them taped down for some reason. Anyway, it had no gas gage but had a reserve that he flipped a valve on the floor to access. If he ran out of gas on the way to work, the reserve was enough to get him to work and back to town to a gas station.

  2. High School girlfriend’s family had a VW bus pick up, very cool. Drove like a tank but a very unique ride. Very rare

  3. I would have to say the Scirocco. I tried to buy one when I got out of college but didn’t have enough credit to get a loan.

  4. I have owned two of the original Beetles, and would love to be able to find a nice one now at a decent price. Very reliable and inexpensive to maintain.
